MonaLisa Touch

What is the MonaLisa Touch?

The MonaLisa Touch is an advanced laser that was specially developed to treat tissues inside the vagina. It uses a fractional CO2 laser, which divides the standard single laser beam into multiple microbeams of light.

The tiny streams of laser energy create pinpoint areas of treatment that restore vaginal health, while the surrounding healthy skin promotes accelerated healing.

What conditions are treated with MonaLisa Touch?

Dr. Starke recommends using MonaLisa Touch when you develop vaginal atrophy. As estrogen levels drop during menopause, the tissues lining your vagina become dry, thin, and less elastic. Blood flow and lubrication inside the vagina also decline.

The MonaLisa Touch effectively treats all the symptoms of vaginal atrophy, including:

  • Dryness
  • Painful intercourse
  • Bleeding after intercourse
  • Laxity
  • Burning
  • Genital itching
  • Pain or burning during urination
  • Urinary incontinence

How does the MonaLisa Touch work?

A slender, round device is inserted into your vagina. When it’s activated, it emits a laser beam that penetrates into the vaginal lining.

Gentle heat from the laser triggers reactions in the tissues, leading to increased blood circulation and the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.

Collagen and elastin restore strength and resilience, while hyaluronic acid helps improve hydration. As these changes occur, vaginal tissues regain their healthy tone and texture, giving you relief from the symptoms of vaginal atrophy.

What should you expect after the procedure?

One session with the MonaLisa Touch only takes five minutes; then you can return to your normal daily activities. You may have slight redness or swelling that heals over the next few days. Dr. Starke advises you to avoid sex for 7 days.

How long will your results last?

When you have your first consultation, Dr. Starke talks with you about the number of treatments you may need. Most women need three visits, 4-6 weeks apart to attain optimal vaginal restoration.

After your first round of treatment is over, you’ may need to come back to the office once a year to maintain your results.

Many women don’t talk about issues like vaginal dryness and painful intercourse, but there are non-hormonal treatments available such, the MonaLisa® Touch. Learn more, call Dr. Starke or book an appointment online.
